My older sis and I were in the middle of a conversation when we had the thought about Creatives and why a lot of us struggle to find who we truly are. She said something along the lines of, "A lot of creatives are afraid to use their gifts/talents and follow their passions because they think it'll get them nowhere or they think they're not good enough." I couldn't agree more.

Growing up as a victim of narcissistic abuse, I had to face a lot of negative talk and emotional neglect. So when it came to my passion for art, I felt as though I didn't have support and I wouldn't get anywhere with it, so it'd be best to leave it as a hobby.

Am I the only one?

But although I ended up studying Business in college I still took art classes because I couldn't leave my passion behind. It felt like a part of me and deep down I knew what I wanted.

After graduating, I delved into my passion more and when my symptoms of abuse and past traumas began to catch up with me, I resolved to creating a painting that could express what I was going through. In other words I channeled my trauma. Doing so eventually led to me writing my first poetry collection and the painting was used as its book cover.

You see, it doesn't matter what type of Creative you are. Your fear or shame of pursuing your passion is rooted in some sort of trauma or abuse you've faced/is facing.

But here's where you have the advantage...

You can choose to channel your trauma by turning your pain into stories that heal, empower and eventually lead to your authentic self! I am living proof that this is indeed possible. (Check out the my story highlight on my Instagram to learn more of my story.)

There is purpose and power behind your gifts, talents and passions and there is also money to be made— if you choose to go in that direction—but overall, there is healing on the other side of sharing your story through your creative expression.
