Codependency & Creativity

If you're like me, then you struggle with codependency. Most likely because you've been in an environment consisted of narcissists or people with some narcissistic tendencies.
What That Looks Like
Being a codependent is operating outside of yourself for everyone but yourself.
1. You place yourself on the back burner.
2. You lack identity or have a false sense of identity.
3. Other's needs are deemed more important than your own.
4. You struggle with emotional regulation
5. You have low self-esteem:
•You struggle to speak your feelings and thoughts
•You refrain from asking for help but quickly respond to the requests of others.
•Your confidence is nearly nonexistent.
•You believe what others (mainly the narcissist) say about you.
This is all due to the emotional neglect you've experienced from your abuser.
The Struggle...
Now when it comes to being a Creative and having a passion for your expertise, there are three things (based on my experience) that get in the way because of codependency.
1. Lies
Believing the verbal abuse of narcissists and whoever your abuser may be. This might include being told that [insert creative passion here] isn't a real job etc. (Not saying that just because someone says this to you means they're a narcissist.)
2. Fear
Being afraid to pursue something that may fail. Thinking that your passion may not get you anywhere in life. Not being as "successful" and "sophisticated" in your career field as your family and the people around you.
3. Silence
Your voice and your identity are dormant.
From Pain To Page
The first step to overcoming codependency is becoming aware of it and the reasons why that is. I suggest you visit @withloveletoya on Instagram to learn more about narcissistic abuse and codependency. Once you're aware and you begin to gain more knowledge, the ball is now in your court to pursue healing, your identity and aunthentic self AND to begin following your passions.
We Creatives have an endless supply of inspiration and empowerment from our past and stories. We can channel our trauma into our gifts/talents. We can turn our silence into purpose and place our pain on the page. The thing is, this can just be the beginning.
Telling our story can open the gateway for us to begin healing while kickstarting our career and it's what we deserve.
It's time that we create the life we want for ourselves now. Be silent no more!
